Tips on Winterizing Your Corvette from Corvette Solution
Hello Everyone This is Silvano Ghali Founder of Corvette Solution and this Blog is about tips to Winterize your Corvette. This is probly the saddest days of the year but hey look at the bright side of things you had a fun summer cruising around going to car shows showing off your ride or some just like to mash the peddle every chance they get So now is a good time to check her out to make sure nothing needs replacement or you might want to Start some modifications to get her ready for another season. In allot of ways I really enjoy this 1 on 1 bonding with my corvette So let's get started. There are so many ways to Winterize your Corvette Doesn't matter What Generation you own they all need love and this is the way I have been doing it for years. I park her in the Garage but Before I set her up I lay down a 3mill blue tarp that's as large as the Car is "to minimize Moisture", I Jack her up and place (2) 2x4 one for the Front Frame cradle and one for the rear Cradle and Setup 4 jack stands placing them under the 2x4 now remove the Wheels and set them aside, I Suggest to change the Oil it is best to have Fresh oil for the long Winter. Put a bottle of staybill in the tank or fill her up till you cannot put anymore fuel in This will give condensation no room to Accumulate. This part is Probably the most important part MOTHBALLS Go to the Dollar store by some panty hose and Mothballs your better half will Definitely look for a therapist when she sees you coming back from the store lol. Now take a handful of the moth balls and place them in one pantyhose tie a knot so the balls are secure you're going to need 7 tied up pantyhose with mothballs in them. Now the placement is like this (1) in the car Anywhere but not on the seat, (4) for each exhaust pipe (1) in the Battery Den,"after Removal of the Battery" and the last one remove your Air filter and stick it in the Filter box and close it "if you still have the OEM setup". If you have an Aftermarket remove the filter and Stick it in the tube But Do not mash the Map Sensor Now you can rest assure no rodents will move into your Corvette and Use your Wiring as a Nest. I would definitely unhook and remove the Battery. It makes the spring start-up completely a no-brainer. "take it from me" take out the battery, store it (on a piece of wood so it doesn't discharge),NOT ON CONCRETE. Put a battery Tender on the Battery and Leave it alone. then come spring, drop it in, windex the windows and off you go. It takes about 10 minutes to do and it is fool-proof. Last thing you Want to do is Put on your Car cover and you're done. Now I do A bit more I love to tackle some modifications, Like an Led conversion this is a good time to do this, add some Side cove led's or do what I do a take out the dremel and some ruge and Shine up the Aluminum underneath, Clean your rims now you can really Clean them and Polish them. Believe me you will Definitely Enjoy bonding with your Corvette and Still feel a sense of pride without Going to the car show. If you have any Questions on how to Accomplish anything from this blog contact me I will be more than Happy to assist you. And Don't forget to Wash her in and out put a coat of Wax and Polish, Shampoo the Carpets, apply some leather cleaner and conditioner and so on. Thank for reading this and please comments are encouraged incase I forgot to mention something... Jack stand
